I am so excited to be joining the One Thimble E-zine Blog Tour this time around!  I'm showing off a few of the items I made from the patterns included as well as a general review of the entire e-zine.

One Thimble is an online sewing magazine that comes out quarterly, with a price tag of just $25 AUD (that means depending on the day, it's around $18 US ;) ).  In addition to the several patterns each issue contains (generally 6-10), there are many articles on general sewing, mini tutorials on sewing techniques, and how to grow your sewing business.  Each issue also has coupon codes exclusive to OT readers.  (Full review below)  Fun, right?!

Let's start with what I made!

When I first saw the patterns included, I knew I'd have to make the Cosmos (Reversible) Skirt and Purse set.  This sweet little skirt and purse set is by Sew Maris Designs (new to me) and covers sizes 2t-10.  It features a scalloped hem and fold-over elastic waistband.  It is reversible as written in the pattern.  BUT...

I chose to make my skirt non-reversible.  Why, you ask?  Because I'm a rule breaker...lol.  No, really, I was using FOE and fabrics only from my stash and I didn't have many choices that matched red/white polka dot FOE.  Instead, I used the bottom portion of the pattern piece and made a facing for the bottom hem.  I was able to sew the hem perfectly between the rows of toadstools so it's not even noticeable.

For my fabric, these little toadstools (Dotty Toadstools - Black - Stenzo Poplin) are from Mabel Madison (of course, right?! LOL) and was the perfect choice for this skirt.  If you look closely, the toadstools are perfectly spaced to each scallop.  It's fate, I tell you.

This pattern prints in layers, in black and white and is easy to follow each step.  The fit and measurement chart were spot on for me as well.

And the purse?  I couldn't help but make a whimsical version to match the toadstools on her skirt.  I freehand cut the green felt to mimic the grass and sewed it on the front piece and then constructed the purse as written.  I used a white twill for the body, red/white polka dot for the flap and the matching toadstool fabric for the inner flap.  The pattern called for twill tape inside the strap, but I didn't have any.  Whoops.  I used red double folded bias tape and sewed white ric rac on top which gave it just the right stability.

I also knew I'd try out the Coco Flower Crown by Molly and Mama (new to me), but I wanted to make sure it was something they could wear to school. I decided I would add the flowers onto an elastic headband in lieu of the tied ribbon as the pattern instructs.  The elastic headband makes it easy for each girl to adjust throughout the day, if needed.   My 6 year old's school colors happen to be black, white, and red so this not only matches my 4 year old's toadstool Cosmos Skirt, but will be just the thing to corral my oldest's hair on Spirit Day every other Friday.

Quite possibly the most fashionable 1st grader --- ever...LOL

I did not have easy access to wool felt (but the designer lists her favorite suppliers in the pattern) so I used regular craft felt and then hot glued a little button inside the flowers, purely for personal preference.  The pattern comes with patterns for 7 types of succulents and 6 different flowers.  To make my trio, I used Succulent #6 (red & black) and Succulent #1 (white).

All 13 of the pattern pieces print out on two pages.  I'm storing my pattern pieces in a little Ziploc bag so I can reuse them over and over.  I'm going to check into the wool felt resources the designer mentioned too because wool felt is so pretty.

This is not my first time enjoying the One Thimble E-zine, but each time I get it, I am amazed at everything that is included.

I really enjoyed sitting on the couch, sipping my coffee and reading through the entire magazine on my tablet.  Reading through all of the patterns was really inspiring.  I'm really intrigued (and intimidated) by the Oasis Quilt.  The way it actually comes together isn't how I pictured it.  I wonder if I can pull it off?!

There's even an article from my friend, Cassie from Lily Shine Boutique and designer for Little Lizard King.  I fought back the urge to shout out "I know her!!" (and just maybe it will inspire me to submit my own article.)  Her article is "Creating a Stylized Photoshoot" and was a great read.  As I delve more and more into photography, I will put her recommendations into practice.

My girls are most excited about the article submitted by Gemia of Phat Quarters -- "Teaching Kids to Sew".  My oldest got a sewing machine for her 5th birthday and my youngest can't wait to learn like her big sis.  I really love the included worksheets and sewing schedule.  As soon as we get settled into the school routine, sewing school will be in session.

There's plenty more articles and tutorials that are going to be great reference tools too.

On my short list of what to tackle next:  Little Collector Backpack, Fat Red Bird Fedora, "How to Create Quality Pins" and "How to Make a Lined Snack Bag".
